To Hell and Back

Welcome back to Get Real! Today we have the premiere of Hell’s Kitchen, which ended up being a two-part premiere!

Usually, we are used to seeing Chef Ramsay being the one getting in everyone’s face on this show, but from the preview of what’s to come on this season it looks like these wannabe chefs are going to be crazy!

This year’s winner would become the new Head Chef at azuri in Whistler, British Columbia, Canada. The show started with each of the chefs cooking their signature dishes in 45-minutes. The women were put on the Red Team and the men were on the Blue Team. The Red Team and the Blue Team went head-to-head with their signature dishes. In Round One, neither team got a point due to undercooked food. Luckily Tek made a good chipotle honey shrimp dish to get the Red Team a point in Round Two. Joseph was being stupid in Round Three and refused to eat part of his meal with his fingers and lost a point to the Red Team. Amanda then took the stupid hat by cooking Margarita French Toast and lost a point to Tony and the Blue Team. Melinda didn’t even get the lobster tail on her dish and lost another point to the men. The next two rounds ended with no point for either side, so the last round was between Sabrina and Van – Sabrina’s dish was too spicy and Van walked away with the win.

For their punishment, the Red Team needed to clean the kitchen while the men were treated to a fancy three-course dinner from Chef Ramsay’s restaurant. The women all studied their books with their recipes while the men continued to enjoy their night.

The sous chef for the Red Team was new and it’s Heather, the winner of Season 2. While both teams prepared their meals for the night, Lovely already messed up for the girls by baking before the restaurant even opened. Then Tek continued to mess up her scallops and they needed to redo their appetizers over and over and over! How do you even make it to this show without knowing how to cook scallops and pasta?!

I don’t know what is happening! Lovely decided to leave and sit down. The Red Team was just going up in flames! They are missing chefs, missing appetizers, freezing the salmon, and just doing horribly. Then on the Blue Team, Chef Ramsay sent Louie packing for not being able to cook lamb properly. I’m surprised he didn’t send any of the girls out of the kitchen. Chef Ramsay had to shut down the kitchen for service and it was so embarrassing to see. I felt bad for everyone. And so many of the diners didn’t even get dinner!

Former contestant Robert came back for dinner and Chef Ramsay had a surprise for him. Robert was asked to be back in the kitchen and, of course, he took him up on the offer.

In the end, while both teams did poorly, the Red Team was the losing team since they didn’t get out one single entrée. They needed to nominate two members of the team for elimination. They ended up choosing Melinda and Amanda. After the numerous servings of pasta that she threw away, Melinda was the first chef to be sent home. And in order to help the Red Team, Chef Ramsay sent Robert to their team. Should be interesting!

The chefs were given a new challenge – clean shrimp! They needed to de-head the shrimp, de-shell it, and then de-vain it. Whichever team ended up with the most completed shrimp would win the challenge. The Red Team, who had Lovely sit out, ended up with 44 shrimp. It came down to the very last shrimp, and the Blue Team won with 45 shrimp.

As their punishment, the Red Team needed to make shrimp cocktail for the entire restaurant, including cleaning shrimp and preparing lemons. The Blue Team, on the other hand, got a beautiful dinner in Newport Beach and dessert on a mega-yacht. Stupid Joseph starting running his mouth and said that he wasn’t there for lunches and sitting back.

For dinner service, the chefs were surprised that they needed to provide tableside service of scampi. Chef Ramsay chose Van from the Blue Team and Tennille from the Red Team. Poor little Tony on the Blue Team was messing up with the scallops and Lovely was messing up, again. Kevin completely stepped up with the appetizers on the Blue Team but Robert was not doing well at all on the Red Team. Van was fighting with J.P. on the floor because he was not willing to listen to his advice. He’s lucky he had the southern charm that was getting all of the customers to like him because otherwise he would have been kicked out right away. Then Tennille was six tables behind on her scampi.

Things just kept going wrong in both kitchens. Tony, Sabrina, Lovely, Tennille, and Van were just messing up here and there. Lovely just need to go because she does not know what she’s doing. By the end of dinner service, Chef Ramsay made everyone send out shrimp cocktail so that people had things to eat and then shut down the kitchen.

Each team was told to come up with two names for elimination. Tony nominated himself because he knew that he messed up, but they were having trouble coming up with another name. The Red Team knew they would put up Tennille because of her poor table service. In the end, the Red Team put up Tennille and Lovely. For the Blue Team, Joseph wouldn’t tell Chef Ramsay who the nominees were. And they he kept messing up and not answering the questions. All Chef Ramsay wanted to know is who was nominated and why. Then Joseph threw off his jacket and got in Chef Ramsay’s face. Um, why can’t you just say that Tony was nominated because he messed up on fish and Andy was nominated because he messed up on chicken?! It’s not hard!

And that’s where it ended! Talk about a cliffhanger!

Up next on Get Real, another foodie favorite, Top Chef Masters, followed by the performance show of So You Think You Can Dance. Stay tuned :)
