We are finally at the finale of America’s Best Dance Crew and it’s down to Afroboriké and We are Heroes.


This is another results show that I can’t stand because I just want the results. So, fast forward through group performances from all of the nine crews and we get to a combined performance from the final two crews.

Fast forward again and now we are at the results.

The winner of Season 4 of ABDC is…

WE ARE HEROES!!!

Finally, a female crew wins the show! See you for Season 5 in January!

It’s down to the final three on ABDC! Can both crews featuring females make it to the top??

Well, maybe! Afroboriké toppled over usual B-Boy faves, Massive Monkees, and the locking girls, We are Heroes. The challenge for this week required the crews to dance through decades of dance and 5 dance legends that included James Brown, Rock Steady Crew, Paula Abdul, Usher, and Lady Gaga.

Afroboriké’s first performance was not too bad. They did really well with Lady Gaga and pretty good in the Paula Abdul section. The b-boy pats were a little rough, but that was to be expected. A lot of their transitions were super slow but it was not the greatest. They did much better last week so they are lucky to be guaranteed into the finals!

Now Massive Monkees and We are Heroes battle it out for the final position in the finale. The boys took the stage first. Naturally, they just killed the b-boy section! And they surprisingly did well with Lady Gaga. But the Usher part was way rough and their goal of hitting the Paula Abdul section didn’t go as well as they had hoped. It was like they lost steam by the end. They didn’t disappoint, but they definitely left the door open for the ladies.

We are Heroes just killed it! They knew exactly what they had to do with this challenge and they did it. There was nothing wrong with that performance! They weren’t too intimidated by the challenge and they took each section for what it was. I would be so surprised if they lost out to Massive Monkees.

Did the judges put the ladies through to the finale ensuring that a crew with girls would actually win the show? Or did they go with the typical B-Boy styling and cop out? Yes, they did!! We are Heroes has made it to the finals which means no more B-Boy champions! But I do still like Massive Monkees and I’m glad they were so humble with their loss.

The Last Chance Challenge had Afroboriké and We are Heroes constructing their own song and performance to get America to vote for them.

Afroboriké performed first and they went tribal. I thought it was good but I was missing the sexiness that they usually put out. I was expecting more Salsa and latino-style dancing and this seemed more like African dancing and Maori tribal moves.

Once again, We are Heroes killed it! That was probably one of the best performances ever on this show! They literally lit the stage on fire! But the fire effect definitely wasn’t needed because these girls outdanced everyone and themselves a million times over. They will for sure win. They have to!

If only I voted on Reality Shows, I would be clogging up the phone lines with votes for We are Heroes. But we will see if everyone feels the same way I do!

vmas challenge the crews

It’s the VMA challenge this week on ABDC …

And it all started off with a group number in tribute to Michael Jackson. The group number was awesome and I bet that Shane had a hand in choreographing that piece! Aw, cute, in the end, the judges were imprisoned in a cell. Oh, but I was wrong! Tabitha & Napoleon choreographed the group number!! I should have known it was there choreography but I honestly didn’t think that they would choreograph it with Shane being part of this show. Love it! :)

Wow, only four crews remain! Finally, We are Heroes made it out of the Bottom 2! These ladies were given Madonna’s infamous Vogue routine from 1990. The whole piece was Victorian inspired. This will be a nice homage to Vogue Evolution who just left the competition last week, though I bet they’re wishing they could have made it to this week’s challenge. The vogue-ing and the locking that these ladies did was amazing! Though, it wasn’t there best routine and I just hope that they are safe for next week.

Afroboriké got Britney’s I’m a Slave 4 You and this is totally the perfect routine for them. There is going to be a whole lot of sexiness going on here, that’s for sure! This crew rocked it and they knew exactly how to master this task. This crew just gets better and better each week. I am now totally rooting for them and We are Heroes. I never thought this crew would make it this far, but they are certainly proving me wrong! I wouldn’t be surprised if they make it to the finals.

Massive Monkees and Rhythm City had to battle it out in the Bottom Two this week. Both of these crews are really good, so it will be tough to see who goes home. Massive Monkees got N’ Sync’s It’s Tearing Up My Heart and I bet this is nerve wracking for the boys since J.C. is a judge! I think the pressure of this performance got to the guys because it was uncharacteristically sloppy of them. And they definitely did not hold a candle to N’ Sync’s choreography. The judges loved it but I am not sure if it will be good enough. Yes, the audience was on their feet but I think that was more for the nostalgia of the boy bands days! We’ll see…

Rhythm City closed the show with a performance to Chris Brown’s Wall to Wall. I wish they had not chosen Chris Brown as one of the artists, but oh well. Well, this crew came at it hard and I am definitely on J.C.’s side – they killed it. I really hope that Rhythm City stays because I think they offer something different, whereas Massive Monkees, while good, are too much like Super Crew from Season 2.

Oh, darn, Massive Monkees made it. Well, I still like them but I hope someone other than a B-Boy crew can win the show.

lamest dance crazes ever

The remaining crews tackle the hottest dance crazes…on trampolines…on ABDC!

Afroboriké was the first saved crew and they needed to master Swag Surfing. This crew stepped it up again this week and they used the trampoline a lot! They were risky and sexy and kept true to themselves. I think the judges were a little harsh on them but we’ll see what happens.

These “dance crazes” are pretty lame and stupid. Really, Massive Monkees needs to take on the Do The Ricky Bobby dance that was inspired from Talladega Nights?! Come on! Of course, these guys did great with the trampoline as it only enhanced the height they needed to do their crazy tricks. I like this crew but I hope they don’t win again because they are too much like some of the past crews who have won.

One of my favorite crews, Rhythm City, was given “the jerk” as their dance craze and I think they will handle it pretty well. Their dancing was okay but definitely not as good as I have seen them do before. But they also shied away from the trampoline a lot. I think they will probably be safe for next week but they left me a little underwhelmed.

Umm, so why are We are Heroes in the bottom, again!? I like We are Heroes and Vogue Evolution a lot, but I think if I had to choose, I would want Vogue Evolution to go home. They really aren’t the best dancers and I think they are just getting by on being the funky, different group and that can only last so long.

We are Heroes took the stage first and they got the Stanky Legg. And, one of their members was injured, so I am really nervous for them. Wow, they killed it! There was not a single thing wrong with that performance and they completely mastered the challenge. I hope they stay.

What?! The “dance craze” for Vogue Evolution is the Halle Berry?! This is the lamest challenge ever!! This crew definitely had the hardest time with the trampoline since their choreography in general is not super sharp. I think it was one of their better performances as a crew but it just doesn’t stack up to the talent of the other crews on the show.

I was so nervous that the judges were going to vote out the girls of We are Heroes, but they didn’t! I can’t say that I am glad that Vogue Evolution is going because I did like this crew a lot but I do agree that it was their time to leave.

It’s an ABDC first as the remaining crews take on Bollywood!

Massive Monkees were saved first and I am not sure how these guys are going to handle the challenge. Their specific style was Bhangra. It will be interesting to see how well they incorporate Bollywood and B-boy into their routine. Wow, it was definitely a good routine and I think they did a good job with the challenge. They totally came after it and regained some points with the judges and me.

The next saved crew was Vogue Evolution. Their style was Rajasthani and they had some choreography with scarves. I like this crew and what they stand for but I am beginning to think that they keep getting by for being fun loving and interesting. But, they definitely outdid themselves this week because I think it was their best performance so far. However, this ego and attention that Leiomy is getting and her diva-tude is not cool. I just don’t think this crew is the best crew on the show and I think every other crew besides Beat Ya Feet Kings are better than they are.

Last week’s best crew, Rhythm City, needed to master Bharata Natyum. How this crew ended up with J’ai Ho as their song is a wonder to me. That gives them an edge right away because it is probably the most popular Bollywood song known to non-Bollywood fans because of Slumdog Millionaire. But, they could have had any song and done it well because the choreography was great. This group is slowly rising to be one of my favorites!

Afroboriké took the stage next and they needed to do Kathak, which incorporated ankle bracelets with bells. I think they should be able to a good job with this routine and challenge. Wow, this routine was fantastic and I think they did such a good job of incorporating their own style with the Bollywood. It just seemed so seamless. It was by far their best routine on the show. In the beginning, I wasn’t so into this crew but they are also rising to the top for me.

Now, I do not understand how We are Heroes are in the bottom because it should be Vogue Evolution against Beat Ya Feet Kings. I am just keeping my fingers crossed that Beat Ya Feet Kings go home.

So, We are Heroes got Giddha, which is a lot of clapping and fast foot work. The routine almost felt like a real Bollywood routine because they really took the style and ran with it. I think they did a good job and I can only hope that they do better than Beat Ya Feet Kings, who got Garba, which incorporates a lot of knee spins and pretty movements. Their whole routine was just so slow and you could tell that they were thinking about each move the entire time.

Did the judges make the right decision and send Beat Ya Feet Kings packing? Yes! They did! Hooray :)

SoCo is a No No

In the words of Lady GaGa: “Just Dance!” So, let’s get to it with some ABDC, shall we?!

This week’s challenge had the crews incorporating martial arts in their routines. Plus, each of the crews got a small mentoring session with Steve Terada of last year’s winning crew, Quest Crew. Hmm…we’ll see how some of these crews fare with this challenge.

First up was Afroboriké and they got capoeira. Man, they got lucky with that! They are probably really familiar with this style. They actually did a pretty good job incorporating this style into their dance but it seemed a little weak with the choreography. This was definitely their weakest routine thus far and they apparently were not as lucky as I thought they would be.

We are Heroes took the stage next and they needed to incorporate karate into their routine. I am sure these ladies will do just fine because they have been nothing but perfect so far. And I gotta say I loved the kimonos in the beginning! They put the karate theme in their entire routine and there wasn’t just one moment but it was the whole thing. So good, love them!

The next saved crew was Vogue Evolution and they need to use some Kung Fu in their routine. I think this could be a disaster because this crew tends to be sloppy in general and I don’t know if they will be able to master the precise movements needed for Kung Fu. Well, the routine was actually their best routine so far, in my opinion…BUT I didn’t see any Kung Fu in there at all.

This next style was nothing I’ve ever heard before…Extreme Martial Arts. Well, if anyone can take on that challenge, it sure is Massive Monkees. The performance was definitely high energy but not my favorite. I’ve seen better B-Boy routines on this show. The choreography was not great and they also didn’t meet their task of putting the Extreme Martial Arts in there. We’ll see.

It certainly seems like no group is really bringing the martial arts theme home, though We are Heroes does take the lead so far. I highly doubt that Beat Ya Feet Kings can take that lead away from them. Oh man, and they were given Tae Kwon Do. This is going to be awful…I can tell. This was the first time that I saw their own style featured in their dance, but there wasn’t anything Tae Kwon Do about it. And it was so slow paced and boring. Ugh, this crew is stupid.

Battling out in the bottom two were Rhythm City and Southern Movement. Frankly, I don’t know Rhythm City is in the bottom because they are not bad at all. They were given Muay Thai and they were as clueless as I was about this form of martial arts. I think they will do pretty good and I hope they do well. Wow! They just saved themselves because that was the best routine of the night!

Southern Movement hit the floor last and they were given Kali, which incorporated a stick prop. I don’t know if these group will be able to pull it off. And they have big shoes to fill after Rhythm City’s performance. Well, they certainly performed well and a lot better than I expected them to. I still think Rhythm City was better by far.
So, did the judges agree with me?? YES! They did. Hooray. Even though I am not the biggest fan of Southern Movement, I do wish they could have stayed over Beat Ya Feet Kings, cause they suck!

Surprising and Single Ladies

Welcome back to Get Real! Tonight we have BB11 and ABDC so let’s get to it.

After Jeff’s wonderful and surprising actions with the Coup D’Etat, we got to see some of the responses from the houseguests. Boy, Chima was pissed!! I was shocked to see Jesse’s reaction, though. He was actually really reasonable about it and acknowledged that it was a smart move on Jeff’s part. On the other hand, Russell, Jordan, and Michele thought it was a good move. Michele was really impressed by his move and that might be a good thing for him now that she is HOH.

Haha, no one knows what Michele is going to do. Everyone has just been friends with her while she had the power and no one really tried to be her ally. I think she’s smart enough to not be bullied into doing what Chima wants her to do but who knows what side she will choose.

Oh my gosh! Natalie, Lydia, and Chima are sitting down and having the biggest pitty party for Jesse being gone. Like Jeff said, it’s not like he’s dead! Thank goodness Kevin was feeling the same sentiments as I am! I am liking Kevin more and more.

For the Have/Have-Not Competition, the houseguests needed to pair up into teams of two. Overall, they did pretty well. The point was to work as a team and they got food for every day of the week but Monday as well as a BBQ grill and no cold showers for the week. Unfortunately, Chima and Natalie were still sour about Jesse’s eviction and couldn’t enjoy the competition or the rewards.

Okay, Lydia is a little strange with her magical unicorn, Dae Yum Yum. She just has some weird quirks about him.

Haha, Jeff and Jordan are so cute! They have a showmance proposal!

Natalie and Chima each came up to talk to Michele and try to convince her to put up Russell. They totally did what Kevin told them not to do – he told them to talk to her but not tell her what to do. I am not sure what she is going to do but I hope she stays with Jeff, Jordan, and Russell.

Wow!! Michele has some guts. She nominated Chima and Natalie. And she made it clear that she wanted Chima to go. Natalie is being stupid and she is basically admitting that she hasn’t had to do a single thing the entire game and now that Jesse is gone she has to fight. Well, duh! That is why Jeff nominated you.

And now, apparently, someone leaves the show prematurely on Tuesday! I put money on Chima! Hehe.

Now let’s see some dance crews on ABDC! It’s the Beyoncé Challenge tonight where each crew would dance to a different Beyoncé song.

We are Heroes got Single Ladies and they needed to take the “Grind Effect” but add some Strobing to it. Strobing, as We are Heroes told us, is a series of short locking motions that make it appear as if you had a strobe light on you. Wow, this could be tough! And, WOW! These ladies are good! They were Popping in heels and they were just so clever with their movements.

Rhythm City’s challenge was to take the Charleston in Beyoncé’s new single Sweet Dreams and make it more modern. They had some nice effects with the bed, but I ultimately don’t think the routine was as good as their first one. It was an interesting concept. I still like this crew, though.

Beyoncé gave Massive Monkey’s a Hoola Hoop challenge. What a hard task for them! They did a pretty good job. They didn’t actually use the Hoola Hoops as its meant to be used, they just used them as props. They were definitely funny and entertaining, though.

Beat Ya Feet Kings had to use the “Uh-Oh” move from Crazy in Love. Wouldn’t be so hard to except that there are four guys and only one girl in the crew! They did a good job but it was still a little elementary. The worst part of this crew is that they are not together with their synchronicity. I wish they were better but I just feel like they haven’t stepped it up for this third season of ABDC.

Afroboriké and Artistry in Motion were revealed as the bottom two crews. But before we get to their battle, it’s time for the two other saved crews to dance it out.

The next crew out was Southern Movement. Beyoncé gave them Jumpin’ Jumpin’ and they had to bounce, shake, twist, and dip. They did pretty good! I think they could have emphasized their challenge a bit more, like Lil Mama said. They were better this week than last week. They are on the same boat, for me, as Beat Ya Feet Kings. They are good, but just not enough for Season 3.

Vogue Evolution needed to perfect some African dance for Déjà Vu. This crew is so fun and I just love their energy. Sometimes when they are doing their Vogueing, their motions look sloppy but the freestyle aspect of Vogueing is like that. They are just so cute, I love them. And Leiomy for sure brought out some Beyoncé, that is for sure!

The girls of Artistry in Motion got Beyoncé’s Diva and they needed to all be touching a chain at the same time at some point in the performance. I’m sure they will come up with something good. Yep, they worked that chain and it was a good performance!

Afroboriké got Beautiful Liar and they needed to get the Shakira belly dancing down. Okay, wow. This crew was so much better than they were last week. They had fantastic partnering skills but they had some incredibly athletic moves. Though, I didn’t see much of the belly dancing.

I really liked both of these crews and while my heart is with Donyelle of Artistry in Motion because of her run on SYTYCD, I think that Afroboriké was the better crew tonight and they should stay. Turns out I was right!!

The Return of the Crew

Welcome back to Get Real! Are you ready for the premiere of America’s Best Dance Crew?? Well here it is!

I didn’t even know that the show was starting! But, luckily, my friend Rey told me that it was starting so I had time to TiVo it.

Nine new crews were introduced on this season premiere opener. The theme was “Crew’s Choice Challenge.” Each crew chose a song that represented their crew. After every three performances, the judges would choose two groups to move on to next week and then one crew that would face elimination later in the show.

The first crew up was Beat Ya Feet Kings from D.C. The main theme of this crew is a dance style called Beat Ya Feet which is similar to the Jerk but more localized to the DC area. It was definitely an interesting new dance style that for sure featured some interesting thing with their feet. But at times it looked sloppy and frantic. I’m not sure how the judges will feel. Shane Sparks, originally from SYTYCD fame, also thought it was a little sloppy. Lil Mama, who decided not to sport the ‘hat and pony’ style, agreed as did J.C. I have a feeling this group will be in the bottom at the end of the night.

Our next crew up was an all girl group called We Are Heroes. They are like Beat Freakz and Fanny Pack combined! I love it!! And these girls are strong, too. They totally brought it and didn’t leave anything behind. The judges loved it but Shane was just eating it up. Hmm, I think I will like this group.

Afroborike was the next group and they are a salsa Cuban/Puerto Rican group from Las Vegas. Okay, what is bothering me about all of these groups is talking about how everyone has sacrificed things in their life to get to this show. Whatever!! Tired of it, just get to the dancing. This group is definitely good, but it reminded me too much of a group number from SYTYCD and not enough hit for a crew. They had some good partnering skills but I think they need some more group dancing.

The first crew to go into the sudden death face-off is Beat Ya Feet Kings meaning We are Heroes and Afroborike are safe and will be performing next week. This is exactly what I thought the results would be.

Now onto our next crew, Massive Monkees from Seattle. This is a standard B-Boy crew so they will naturally be popular but maybe too much of the same. I think it’s time a different type of crew win this show. Wow, they were really good and clearly had some good moves and strength in there.

Another all girl group was next and it featured Donyelle from Season 2 of SYTYCD!! This group is called Artistry in Motion and they are from Hollywood. I think they had a good combination of Hip Hop and traditional dance skills in there. They are what so many other girl groups have tried to be in the past but they have never been able to pull it off until now.

The next group was Southern Movement from Nashville. I am a little worried about what this is going to be. It’s like a mixture of Hip Hop and country western dancing. It was actually a really good routine. These next three crews were all really good, so it’s going to be hard to choose which group would be in the bottom.

So who will be joining Beat Ya Feet Kings in the sudden death face-off? Southern Movement was in the bottom. But I honestly don’t think they have anything to worry about.

Rhythm City was the next group to take the stage. They were definitely good and were just a classic Hip Hop group. They had a lot of really good energy and they will be a front runner in this competition for sure.

The next group up was FR3SH. I liked that they were saying they shouldn’t be compared to Kabba Modern or So Real Cru just because their Asian. Now, this crew is from Jersey so I could easily have a prejudice against them from the beginning but I am willing to give them a chance. And they are good for sure!

Our last crew of the night was Vogue Evolution. This crew is like a group of Benny Ninjas! They could be really good or just too different. Well, it was definitely fabulous! But I think the judges will think it’s frantic and sloppy, because it was, frankly. I don’t know how well they will be able to adapt to some of the challenges of the show if they make it, but they could be interesting. And can I just say that Laimy is a beautiful woman?! I never would have thought that she was transgendered.

The final crew going to the sudden death face-off was FR3SH. That means that FR3SH, Beat Ya Feet Kings, and Southern Movement will be facing off. Let’s see their battle! Each crew danced to Boom Boom Pow for 30 seconds. Wow, all of the crews had some really good choreography.

In the end, the judges sent FR3SH packing. I’m surprised because I really didn’t think that they were bad or the worst crew. I personally really don’t like Beat Ya Feet Kings and I don’t think they will last too long in the competition.
