Reality TV Rewind...Part One

Welcome back to Get Real! As I'm catching up with last week's episodes and working on this week's shows as well, it'll be a little bit of a rewind for those of you who may have watched already. So, please be patient with me!

Today we have the finale of Make Me A Supermodel and part one of last week’s episodes of So You Think You Can Dance!

First to go is the Make Me A Supermodel Finale!

As you may remember, the judges sent Mountaha home last week, leaving just the men: Sandhurst, Jonathan, and Branden.

My pre-show predictions are that it should come down to Branden and Jonathan. Sandhurst doesn’t have the ideal body and his face does not translate well in a photo. Jonathan is fantastic in both runway and photos, but sometimes he psyches himself out. Branden is über green but he has an incredible look and is quite modern looking. The sheer potential and raw talent of Jonathan and Branden will allow either of them to win.

The photo shoot was with a 20”x24” Polaroid portrait. They would each get three photos: a close-up portrait, a full body shot, and a group shot. The camera takes a full two minutes for the photo to develop. The models were told that there would be no photo challenge winner this week and that the judges would look at them to help decide the winner. All of the close-up portraits were just beautiful. I think even I could take a good picture with this camera and I am so not photogenic!

They guys were then woken up from a call from Corey Bautista from New York Model Management and they were told that they had a go-see with Cosmopolitan Magazine. This is a major deal for him since so many women read this magazine. The guys were there for a cover test. Jonathan was a little stiff, Branden did wonderfully, and Sandhurst eventually warmed up to the camera once he took his shirt off!

Then the models were invited to an open house art gallery showing. The surprise was that the invitation was for plus one, which means that each of the models had a family member or loved one come to visit them! Branden’s mom came and it was so cute to see how happy he was. Sandhurst freaked out when his sister came in. And then was the very sentimental moment when Jonathan’s wife and son came in. Such a cute baby!

All of the guys were surprised to see that the gallery showing was all of their own photos. Branden was like a kid in a candy store seeing all of his photos and his mentors.

Finally, it was time for the last ever runway. They each had to do two looks, one “fun” and one “fabulous.” The guys all looked great on the catwalk. I thought that Branden killed it! Jonathan was a little stiff on the first walk which did not look good. Sandhurst had a bit more personality this time around but he looked a little awkward to me.

The judges liked Jonathan’s walks and his portrait, but not his full length. And Catherine was very curious about whether or not he would actually be able to travel and fulfill all of his needs as a model. The judges loved Branden’s photos and the judges thought that he has a unique look to him. They praised Sandhurst on his portrait but said that his second walk was not up to par.

So who takes home the title of the next male supermodel and a one year contract with New York Model Management?

BRANDEN!! Yay! I never thought he would have won the competition but he improved so much throughout it all, there was no doubt in my mind during this last episode that he would win.

Now it’s onto So You Think You Can Dance!

First we catch all of the dancers at the Vegas callbacks! In total, 172 dancers made it to the Vegas round, but only 20 will make it to the actual show.

On the judging panel for Vegas week are the standards, Nigel and Mary, plus choreographers Mia Michaels, Lil C, Adam Shankman, and Debbie Allen. First, each dancer does a solo dance to prove why they actually belong in Vegas. The first dancer of the week was Alex Wong. Umm, this was probably one of the best solos I have ever seen! Can I just say that it is so exciting to see an Asian ballet dancer!

None of the dancers would receive criticism after their solos. The judges decided that some of the dancers were not as good as they once thought and 40+ dancers were sent home after their solos.

Now it was time for the first round of choreography: Hip-hop with Tabitha and Napolean. The dancers would all dance and would either be cut or move-on to the next round. Another 37 dancers were cut after Hip-Hop and the days would only get worse. The next choreography round was ballroom, a waltz more specifically. This is definitely out the comfort zone for a lot of dancers!

Cute little Japanese Nabuya, a locker, was great in the ballroom round! Yay for my Japanese people! Unfortunately for everyone else, not everyone was so charismatic and worked as hard as Nabuya as 16 more dancers were sent home.

Then Sonya worked her magic on the dancers in the jazz round and Sonya finally got to work with Natalie Reed, one of her favorite dancers in the competition. Unfortunately, Natalie didn’t perform in the final round and she was sent home. It sent shock waves throughout the other dancers who now realized that no one is safe.

The first to dance for her life was Gabi Rojas. She should be so thankful that she was given the opportunity to dance for her life because she is such a good dancer and was saved. I only wonder why they didn’t let Natalie dance for her life when they were pulling for her so much.

After the jazz round, only 73 dancers remained and they were faced with the group dance. I am very hesitant to see this as these dances can either be great or horrible! The first dance was clearly horrible and so, so, so unorganized. Even I could choreograph better than that! And that is clearly saying something. About mid-day, the groups started to get better and better ending with a really great and clever performance by “nerdology.”

Yet another test was a choreography round with Mia Michaels. I think any aspiring dancer both wants to dance with and fears Mia and her choreography. Lots of people struggled, as suspected, with the routine and few people were given second chances. The one pair of brothers and one pair of sisters both made it past Mia’s choreography.

For the first time ever, they are putting together an all guys and all girls routines with Tyce Diorio. Some favorites like Gabi Rojas and Megan Kinney didn’t make it past the final round. And Megan was left waiting to see if her sister would make it. And she made it to the top 16 girls and that stands between her and the Top 10 is a solo.

Then it was time for the guys’ routine. Guy favorites like Philip and the Broadway Brothers made it to the final 16 guys.

We were left with a teaser of the selection of the Top 20.

And so are you!

Up next on Get Real, the revealing of the Top 20 on So You Think You Can Dance and The Fashion Show. Stay tuned :)
