This season, the designers would be working in LA rather than New York and their workstations would be in FIDM!
The designers met Tim on the red carpet for the Emmy’s. That led to their first challenge: create a red-carpet look for whatever awards show they wanted. Of course, it needed to be fashion forward and innovative. They were given $200 at mood for shopping and two days to complete their look.
Hmm, so Ari doesn’t sketch. That’s strange and could be a problem for her in upcoming team challenges where she would need to sell her look. And Johnny was struggling from the beginning because of his past problems with addiction.
The models arrived for this challenge and this time, they were assigned to the designers. I can’t wait for next week’s model selection when they get to fight over their models! Hehe.
And now the runway! Michael Kors and Nina Garcia were back (yay!) with a special guest judge. Ugh…stupid Lindsay Lohan. I forget that this was filmed a long time ago so she may have just been at the demise of her “career” when she this was filmed. Because if it had been filmed today…there is no way she would be asked to be a judge! Hello…she is like withering away into oblivion and has no career at all!
Anyway, back to the runway! After the runway show, the following designers were left on the runway: Mitchell, Qristyl, Christopher, Ra’mon-Lawrence, Ari, and Johnny.
Qristyl’s dress was ripped apart from the judges. I completely agree. Christopher, on the other hand, did a great job with his dress and it was perfect for the VMAs. Ra’mon-Lawrence’s dress was really pretty, but something typical of the red carpet and not innovative enough. Ari’s dress was a complete mess and I think only a few people could wear it and pull it off…it any at all! Johnny’s dress reminded me of something I could see Marion Cotillard wearing to her Public Enemies premier. Mitchell’s dress was clearly a disaster but the judges seemed to understand his dilemma and were intrigued by his general design aesthetic.
So who was the winner and who was Auf’ed?! Christopher, the un-trained designer, won! Good for him and he deserved it for sure. Mitchell’s vision saved him in the end as Ari was sent packing.
